Valentine's Day

Valentinus was known for his good deeds and his help to the poor and sick. He was sentenced to death by Emperor Claudius II on February 14 for refusing to renounce his faith. Valentinus was later canonized by the Catholic Church and February 14 was declared Saint Valentine's Day. Nowadays the day is mainly celebrated as a day of love. It is a day on which loved ones give each other extra attention with gifts, flowers or cards, for example. In some countries it is customary to send a card anonymously to the person you are in love with. In other countries, Valentine's Day is mainly celebrated as a day to express your love to your (grand)parent, your partner or spouse.

Many couples celebrate Valentine's Day with a romantic breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.
